Sizzix Textured Impressions Embossing Folder-Katelyn Lizardi-Winter Snowflakes
Sizzix Thinlits Dies By Tim Holtz-Funky Festive
Tim Holtz Distress Mica Flakes
I always wanted to make an ornament card which can actually be used to decorate the Christmas tree. I got this opportunity when I got a monthly kit from Hero Arts. And let the fun begin... I used the ornament die from the kit to cut out the frame in red, the foam in white and the acetate for the shaker card. I have glued the acetate onto the red frame and glued two foam together to add thickness. I have also painted the inner side of the foam with white acrylic paint to cover the gap, which could hopefully prevent the shaker flakes to from getting stuck in the gap. For the shaker, I used the clear distress mica flakes to mimic snowflakes. After I added the mica, I adhered the sentiment piece onto the background of the ornament. Then, I added a bow on the top of the ornament using red twine. To add more accents on the front of the ornament, I used the poinsettia and holly leaves die from Sizzix Funky Festive dies set. Then I embossed a 3D winter snowflake for the card base. I want the ornament to be detachable, so I added a magnetic thin sheet on the back of the ornament and the back of the snowflake card base as well. Once the magnetic sheet is adhered, the ornament can stay on the card without any glue. This is not only a shaker card, but can also be used as an actual Christmas ornament.
