Chinese Lunar New Year~ Year of Ram

2/18/2015

祝福大家在新的一年裡平安~喜樂~
Happy Chinese Lunar New Year~ It is just around the corner. Say goodbye to the year of the horse and welcome the year of the Ram. I have created a card to celebrate the new year. It might not have any animal in this card but it includes my wishes to all my friends and families. I wish everyone
a joyful, healthy, prosperous and happiest new year ahead! ^^
Picture
I guess beside wishes, I will share with you some of the steps on this creation.
Everyone loves bling bling stuff. Especially during New Year celebration, we decorate everything bright and sparkle. I think Perfect pearl from Ranger can take on this job. Stamping Versamark ink on the black cardstock and using small brush to pick up some, not too much, a tiny dab of powder goes a long way, gently brush it on the section you want the color to be. I choose rainbow in this case. Can't go wrong with it. ^^
Picture
Here is the close up. I wish you can see how shiny it is. Love the result.

I also decide to include a flower. Peony is very popular in Chinese painting. It is the traditional floral symbol of China, the state flower of Indiana, and the 12th wedding anniversary flower,  with their lush, full, rounded bloom, peonies embody romance and prosperity and are regarded as an omen of good fortune and a happy marriage. I did a wet embossing with gold embossing powder. Then apply another bling bling goodie-Twinkling H2O watercolor. It is so hard to show the shimmer on the picture, wish you can see it too.

The rest is assembling. At the last minuet, I remember an embossed folder from Anna Griffin that I bought last year, the pattern somehow similar to Chinese motif. I decide to dry embossing it as my red background. Even though it is in Anna Griffin's Christmas collection, it actually match the scene very well. How funny isn't it?

Thank you for stopping by~ Have a great day!

I really like the collage design with vintage look that Tim has created for February. Since it is February, it is all about LOVE.  To see Tim's February Tag tutorial,  you can click on the image below.

I want to share with you my take on the 12 Tags of 2015-February. I don't really have all the embellishments for this project, but I am very happy that I get a chance to use some of the ephemera that I collect over the years. ^^
Beside posting my tag for 12 Tags of 2015-February, I am also entering my "Key to My Heart" tag into Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog H is for... Obviously, H is for key to my "H"eart.

12 Tags of 2015-February Key to My Heart
To begin, I start looking into my bit and stash boxes where I have collected things from everywhere. The square frame is a vintage slide frame that I found in an art thrift shop. Some postcards, business cards, bookmarks, washi tapes, and poker cards were used in this project. Don't forget to check out his amazing February creation on Timholtz.com.  It is always fun to follow Tim's Tag tutorial. Thank you Tim!^^

First, positioning all the materials. Using any type of adhesive you have to seal it. I used mod podge.
Picture
After putting all the pieces together, I started sanding around the edges to create a more rustic look. You can also see how I created the number 14 by using a 10 and a 4 poker cards in the second picture.

I used Tim Holtz's distress Paint Picket Fence and one of the most practical tool that I possess - my fingers to paint the edge of the tag and around the pictures.
Picture
The next step is darken the tag a little bit by using distress ink black soot and aqua pen. Apply the ink and just use fingers to brush around it.
Picture
It's getting there.^^
Picture
Starting to put the second layer to the tag. I have decided to omit some of the stuff that I have chosen in the first place. I think these are good enough.
Attached the Word Bands with Long Fasteners, both from Tim Holtz's idea-ology.  I love the phrase! The vintage slide frame is also in place.

Since I don't have the arrow, I found two roses and a Locket key that will look great with this tag. Instead of using wire, I have decided to go with brown waxed cotton cord to attach the key to the roses.
Picture
The heart is bit plain so I wanted to add some texture on the top.  I used staples to create those Xs and I love the look of it. You can see I have also practiced it on the scrap paper. Practice makes perfect. ^^
Picture
The paper heart is also added with some Distress ink walnut stain around the edge using blending tool.

Here are some pictures of the details.

I hope you all will enjoy and love this tag just as much as I have enjoyed and loved creating it.

Thank you so much for stopping by and have a great day. Happy Valentines and see you soon~
